A Ritual of Purification for Body, Mind & Spirit

Join us for a profound Traditional Sweatlodge Ceremony Ireland. The Sweatlodge at Caherconnell is a sacred, dome-shaped structure crafted from willow and fully covered to ensure complete darkness within. This ancient ritual offers a profound experience of steam, intended to purify the body, mind, and spirit.

The Sacred Fire & Preparation

The journey begins at a safe distance from the lodge, where a fire is constructed and lit with sacred intention. As the fire initiates the sacred space, the four directions are called in.
While the stones are heating, participants are encouraged to go inwards and be mindful; you may choose to walk the labyrinth or sit in quiet reflection. Once the stones approach readiness, you will be called to the lodge and saged by the leader to clear your energy field before entering.

The Ceremony

Upon entering, participants move in a clockwise direction around the central pit. The ceremony unfolds in four distinct rounds, led by a leader who works with each of the four directions.

• The Stones: The fire keeper passes the heated stones to the leader, who mindfully places them into the pit. Once seven stones are placed, the door is closed to begin the first round.
• Offerings: The person seated in the west places an offering of herbs on each stone.
• The Steam: Using a ladle, the leader pours water over the stones to release the purifying steam.
• Intervals: Between each round, there is an opportunity to step outside for water and fresh air if needed.

Preparing for Your Experience

To get the most out of this spiritual journey, we recommend following these guidelines:

• Hydration & Food: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the ceremony and eat lightly on the day.
• Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing inside the lodge (such as shorts and a t-shirt). You may also bring a towel inside with you.
• Personal Belongings: For your own comfort and the sanctity of the space, please leave all jewellery and valuables at home.
• Cooling Down: While there are no formal shower facilities, a plunge pool is available on the land for those wishing to cool down afterwards
.
• Nourishment: Food is provided for all participants once the ceremony is complete.
